Sydney Maria is a native of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. When he was 8 years old, he participated in his first Carnival wearing a lavish white feather costume, in the "destaque", dancing at Rio de Janeiro School of Samba. This experience paved the way to his future, as he aspired to dance and design his own samba costumes.

He graduated from the renowned Socila School of Modeling in Rio de Janeiro, and used this experience to perform in costume at various clubs in Rio.

Later, he worked for Maria Tereza, the famous Brazilian designer and owner of the upscale Twiggy store. He assisted Maria in designing women's fashions, using silk, and other exotic fabrics. Sydney Maria, also, worked with Luis Fernando and Marco Antonio, who were well known within the Brazilian fashion scene. Stars such as Luiza Brunet, Roberta Close, Monique Evans and Josi Campos wore the Fernando and Marco Antonio designs.

In his first entrepreneurial adventure, he opened his own successful men's fashion Clothing store, Obsession, in Copacabana. His creations were exotic, unique and fashionable for the young men of Rio. Sydney Maria is a designer of extraordinary talent. Growing up in Rio de Janeiro, costuming is in his genes. He creates exquisite carnaval and performance costumes for showgirls and showguys around the world. His jeweled and feathered sexy costumes can be appreciated on samba dancers throughout the world.
